About this event:
Privacy and data protection have become increasingly high-profile concerns for IT managers. HSBC has recently joined the likes of Nationwide Building Society, Norwich Union and HM Revenue & Customs in losing customers’ sensitive personal information, and have suffered negative publicity as a result. But such problems are avoidable – and technology is available to make sure it doesn’t happen to you.
A new breed of products known as privacy-enhancing technologies, or PETs, are emerging that are specifically designed to help organisations manage the increasingly complex and widely distributed information they store. Traditional security techniques such as firewalls, password controls and other anti-hacking tools are no longer enough – new practices are needed that focus on the protection, retention and privacy of vital business information. Even the European Commission is taking an active interest in promoting PETs.
In this Computing web seminar, in association with Hitachi Data Systems, we examine the emerging tools, technologies and best practice in managing data and ensuring privacy of sensitive or confidential information. Our panel of experts will discuss the legal and technical issues involved, and a real-life case study will look at how one organisation has tackled the problem.
