While the industry is yet to see a harmonized corporate actions market, industry groups are constantly helping push the topic up the agenda. This year, corporate actions is expected to be one of the areas firms will still invest in as there is an immediate need to reduce risk and the potential for financial losses. The industry discussions are now focused on assessing opportunities for improving data quality by introducing the data tagging standard eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) at the issuer-level and moving to a ‘near real-time’ corporate actions data distribution model.

  • Firms continue to invest in software to improve automation, but should the focus still be on reducing the risk associated with event processing or where should the emphasis be?
  • The lack of consistency in the use of standards is typically seen as one of the main corporate actions challenges. But how would the extension of XBRL to cover corporate action announcements change the corporate actions space?
  • Challenging market conditions are putting more pressure on firms to achieve timely corporate actions processing. Are “near time” or “real time” corporate actions a possibility?
