Synopsis:

The government’s efficiency agenda is driving local authorities and public sector bodies to find new ways to improve services while cutting costs – and IT is playing a vital role. Technologies that have been proved in the private sector are increasingly offering significant benefits to the public sector.

Virtualisation is one of the key tools that can help organisations to reduce their hardware costs; improve flexibility and responsiveness to change; and make employees more productive. A virtualisation strategy that also takes into account related technologies such as blade servers and storage is becoming central to many public sector IT departments’ plans. And as green computing also becomes an increasingly important issue, virtualisation offers further benefits in terms of energy efficiency and environmental considerations.

In this Computing web seminar, in association with Dell, we examine the emerging best practice in virtualisation, and in particular focus on how the technology can help the public sector meet its demanding cost and service objectives. Our panel of experts will answer your questions, and Dr Zafar Chaudry, director of information management & technology at Liverpool Women's NHS Foundation Trust will present a real-life case study showing how virtualisation helped the Trust cope with its rapidly growing information needs.
