Event Overview
Most companies today take reasonable steps to safeguard their business from internet threats, with firewalls, antivirus and anti-phishing measures now commonplace. However, many firms focus on these networked threats while ignoring the risks posed by physical theft of data held on end-user IT devices.
Smaller firms often do the least to safeguard end-user data, when they ought to take security at least as seriously as large corporations. Being sued over a data leak, suffering bad publicity or losing trade secrets might hit the profits of a large company, but it could spell bankruptcy for a smaller concern.
When it comes to securing clients, many small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) feel:
- they don’t have the time;
- they don’t have the expertise;
- they don’t have the money;
- they’re not really at risk; or that
- security measures will get in the way of business.
This IT Week web seminar will address these questions directly and will explain how SMBs can improve the security of their IT operations at reasonable cost and without disrupting normal business processes. Our panel of experts will offer advice on best practices, and answer your questions about how to ensure that critical data remains private.

Williams’ IT department.
Chris’ route to Williams began at Headlands School in Bridlington where his innate skills and disposition
led him to pursue a higher education path at Hull College of Engineering & the University of Humberside,
initially to HNC level, but ultimately to an honours degree in Engineering. His academic studies covered all
aspects of engineering from Mechnical to Electrical, Control and CADCAM.
Graduating in 1994, Chris’ first two professional engagements were local to his native Bridlington, first with

CADCAM techniques into a traditional craft industry as he assisted the Hull-based porcelain manufacturer
with the development of new methods of design and manufacture. Ultimately, he was among a small
group of engineers that received the American Standard President’s Award for implementing new
technology.
In 1997, Chris joined Matra Datavision, a supplier to Williams F1. At the Coventry-based firm, he used his

vacancy for a CADCAM specialist at Williams F1.
Joining Williams in 1998, he supported a growing CADCAM application demand based on UNIX operating
systems and progressively became more involved in supporting servers, data management and high
performance computing for simulations in specialist applications such as aerodynamics and materials.
Today, Chris manages the IT department after a steady promotion. He leads 12 members of staff who
manage a rigorously utilised IT infrastructure spanning remote operations around the world at races and
tests, a high end engineering function and a large traditional business user community.
