Speaker Biographies



Ian Osborne was appointed project manager for the Grid Computing Now! Project in February 2005. Intellect is the UK trade association for the IT, telecoms and electronics industries.  Its members account for over 80% of these markets and include blue-chip multinationals as well as early stage technology companies.

Grid Computing Now! is a Knowledge Transfer Network, funded by the UK Government’s Technology Strategy Board, aimed at transferring the knowledge and capabilities necessary to demonstrate the value of Grid Technologies in UK public and private sectors. Intellect is leading this project in partnership with the National e-Science Centre in Edinburgh, a world leader in Grid Technologies for e-Science, and CNR Ltd, A Bristol based management consultancy. The project involves leading IT suppliers, the UK e-Science community and a growing number of interested business and academic professionals.

Ian has worked in ICT since 1972. He trained as a Computer Programmer at Cornhill Insurance before stints with British Airways and International Computers Limited. In 1979, Ian joined the Hewlett-Packard Company where he enjoyed a substantial career working in Research & Development, Quality and Marketing at HP locations in the US and UK. He held senior management positions in HP’s European Research Laboratories and Telecom Systems Business.

Ian has a Masters Degree in the Management of Technology, a joint degree awarded by the Universities of Sussex and Brighton in 1992. He is a Member of the British Computer Society and a Chartered Information Technology Professional, a member of the Association for Computing Machinery and an Associate Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.


   

David Gittins has been in the IT industry and IT R&D for over twenty years and is one of Capgemini’s Executive-level Consultants.

He initially worked in the manufacturing sector, before becoming a Lecturer in Data Processing at Loughborough University.

From there, he moved to a flight simulation manufacturer, managing their transition to Unix and object-oriented programming.

He then worked at Sun Microsystems for 17 years in a wide variety of Consulting roles, across finance, commercial, media and health sectors, ending-up as CTO for their Public Sector Division in the UK. He was Lead Architect assigned to Reuters Global operations, to the Sainsbury’s IT outsourcing to Accenture, and to the NHS ‘Spine’ IT programme.

He joined Capgemini in 2007 and has worked on engagements at the Ministry of Justice, RADA, ITV and Birdseye.






Mark Cresswell is currently Chief Executive Officer of Scalable Software. With over 20 years in the software industry, Cresswell has broad and deep industry experience in development, sales, marketing and product management.

Prior to joining Scalable, Cresswell was Chief Executive Officer of NEON Systems, Inc. NEON was a Nasdaq listed company that specialized in middleware to integrate IBM mainframes. Prior to joining NEON, Cresswell was managing director of Framesoft, a private Swiss company that developed solutions for the investment banking market.

Cresswell is also a member of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists

Neil Sanderson

Neil Sanderson - UK Product Manager, Virtualisation and Management, Microsoft
 

Neil has over 25 years experience in the IT industry, in IT Manager, sales and technical roles with both public sector and commercial organisations. He has spent 10 years with Microsoft as a business strategy consultant and is currently the UK Product Manager for Virtualisation and the System Center management products.
